Essex family & lifestyle photography
Little ones are constantly changing and growing, it’s hard to keep up with them sometimes, that is why photographs are so important to look back on. Have you ever had someone say to you ‘they’ve changed so much since I last saw them.’ when it might only have been a couple of weeks or so? When you see your cuties everyday you don’t see how quickly they are changing, let’s take a moment to refresh those beautiful frames you have in your homes and fill them with happy memories. Read below my frequently asked questions, a timeline of working together and detailed information about my prices.
If you are looking to have some family photography in Essex and are ready to work together to create some beautiful photos I’d love to hear from you!
frequently asked questions
WHERE SHOULD WE HAVE OUR PHOTOS TAKEN?
When it comes to the location of your session, it is great if it has a personal meaning as it will help to tell your story. Maybe the session could be your favourite place to going walking or exploring.
You could have your family photos taken at home, these sessions make for photos that are really laid back, cosy, and have a true to life feel to them.
If you’re unsure with where you’d like to have your photos taken I am always happy to help find the perfect place that reflects your personalities.
*Please note family sessions are not undertaken in London and travel expenses will apply if more than a 20-mile radius from Braintree.
HAVE YOU GOT ANY LOCATION IDEAS?
There are lots of lovely locations in and around Essex for family sessions, here are some of my favourite locations:
+ Coggeshall Hamlet
+ Bocking Nature Walk
+ Bishop Stortford Southern Country Park
+ Melford Country Park
+ Hylands Park
+ Dedham Boating
+ Flatford Mill
+ Marks Hall Gardens*
+ Beth Chatto Gardens*
+ Thaxted Village
+ Shalford Bluebell Wood (bluebells in April/May)
+ Paper Mill Lock
+ Heybridge Basin
+ Mersea (East or West, both are different and equally good for photos)
+ Cudmore Grove Country Park
+ Your home
+ Your favourite walk
*Please note the starred locations have addmission fees.
WHAT IF IT RAINS?
If it rains we can take umbrellas and go with it, or alternatively we can reschedule. Often when there is light rain you can’t see it in the photos.
WHAT TIME OF DAY IS BEST FOR PHOTOS?
A few hours before sunset or just after sunrise (this time is known as golden hour) is the best time in terms of lighting as this is when the light is at its softest and looks magical.
With that said I know this time isn’t the best time for families with young children. If you have a little one I would advise picking a time of day they are most happy, whether that be after nap time or after lunch. I would just suggest we chose a location that has shady areas so we can avoid the harsh light when the sun is high.
WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?
When is comes to what to wear for your session, I’d advise wearing whatever makes you feel comfortable as this will make you feel most confident.
Whether that be rocking up in your favourite pair of jeans (we all have that one pair we just love right!) or a floaty summer skirt, whatever makes you feel ‘you’.
One piece of advice I would give you is, as we live in England we see a fair bit of rain, if you are wearing a gorgeous pair of shoes that you don’t want to get dirty bring a change of shoes. In fact, if you did want to bring a change of outfit to the session feel free. I recommend a spare outfit for kids for those just incase moments!
CAN WE BRING OUR DOG TO OUR FAMILY SESSION?
Yes, of course, they are part of the family! Please be sure to check that the location allows dogs. A little tip when bringing your fur babies would be bringing a couple of treats and their favourite toy to help get their attention in the photos.
HOW TO GET THE BEST PHOTOS ?
Be open to the idea of having your photos taken, it might feel daunting at first but just be your true selves and that’ll reflect in the photos. I am all about capturing your personalities so let them shine.
IF WE CAN NO LONGER MAKE THE SESSION WHAT DO WE DO?
Please let me know as soon as possible, depending on the location of the session I can leave up to an hour before the shoot.

Get in touch
If you think my style of photography would complement the walls in your home I’d love to hear from you! Booking in your date couldn’t be easier, the first step is getting in touch via the contact form on this page. Once you’ve secured your session we can begin discussing locations and ideas for where you’d like the session to take place.
Photograph your gorgeous family
So we’ve decided on the perfect location that reflects your family, we meet up and take some photos. I love to keep the photo session fairly relaxed because I believe this helps you to feel more at ease in front of the camera. I’ve been known to throw in the occasional game to take your mind off of being in front of the camera and getting some natural reactions.
Download, print, share
2 weeks after your family photo session you will receive a link to an online gallery where you can download the high-resolution images, print and share with loves ones. The gallery will be password protected so only those you share the details with can access the images.
It doesn’t have to be the end of our photography journey! Families are forever changing and growing, let’s make this a yearly tradition and keep those frames up to date! I always love catching up with families, meeting the new additions and hearing their stories. If you time the session well you could always gift photos of your little cuties to loved ones for birthdays/Christmas, you’re welcome for the idea ;-).

family photography kind words
We recently booked Gemma for a family photoshoot and are absolutely over the moon with the photos, we would highly recommend her as a photographer.
With a 9 month old baby and dog in tow, it was a concern as to how the photos may turn out, but we didn’t need to worry at all. The photos are gorgeous and Gemma has captured memories that we will treasure forever. We cannot wait to cover our walls with the beautiful photos.
Thank you so much, Gemma, it was a pleasure and we will definitely book you again for future photoshoots!
Just received our photos from a recent family photoshoot and I couldn’t be happier!!
Gemma was so friendly, she was not phased by having to get my kids to cooperate when all they wanted to do was roll in mud, and most importantly she took some amazing photos that I will treasure!
Thank you so much Gemma, I will def be recommending you!!!
Gemma did an amazing job photographing our wedding and we love all our wedding photos so, when I saw that she was doing family photography, I couldn’t wait to get some photos of our son and they have completely lived up to expectations!
The photos are brilliant – we’re so happy with them and were sent through so quickly.
Gemma is really professional, thinks of everything and even made a shoot with a 7 month old who was refusing to smile fun!
