All you need to know about wedding albums

Feb 11, 2019 | Wedding advice & ideas

Living in the digital age where most of our photographs forever stay on our computers and phones, it makes the world of difference to have something physical to hold. Just like your parents and grandparents did, print your photos and enjoy looking back at what is your family heirloom. I personally love seeing photos in print, every year I do a photo book of my travels. I love picking them up off the shelf and looking back, I enjoy the experience much more than flicking through photos on my phone.

In this post I answer your frequently asked questions about wedding albums, I hope you find it helpful.

Essex wedding photographer answers your wedding album questions

CAN WE BUY AN ALBUM AFTER THE WEDDING?

Yes of course, if you’re not ready to commit to booking in an album at your consultation you can always come back to me after the wedding and we can work on your wedding album together. I’d say a third of the wedding albums I produce are booked after the wedding.

One thing I advise couples is that if you know 100% that you want a wedding album, is to book it in when you secure your date. The reason for this is because if you’ve booked it in you’re more likely to budget for it when working out your wedding finances.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE AN ALBUM?

Once you’ve finalised your album I then send it off to the album making pro’s for them to bring your album to life. Once your album is made it gets delivered to me first so I can check it over and make sure it’s perfect for its new home. Having it come to me first adds a couple of extra days but doing this ensures top quality for my clients.

More often than not your album will arrive within a month, but during my album makers peak session (November, December, when everyone wants their album for Christmas) production times take longer. So if you want your albums quicker I’d suggest getting your design approved before then.

WHO CHOOSES THE PHOTOS IN THE ALBUM?

You or me, whatever you’d prefer. If you know there are must have photos that you’d love included in the album I’d advise that you choose. If you love too many and it’s too hard to pick you can have me do the hard part and let me create something that I think you’d love.

If you decide to choose the photos yourself I ask that you make a favourites folder on your online gallery, it’s as easy as registering your email and clicking the heart icon on your favourites.

HOW MANY PHOTOS WILL GO IN MY ALBUM?

When choosing photos for your album I suggest selecting 70 of your must-have wedding photos. When I design your album I sometimes add in extra photos to help tell the story of your day page by page so by the time your album is finished you will have a selection of 70+ images.

WHO DESIGNS THE WEDDING ALBUM?

Currently, I design all wedding albums and use professional album making software that helps me to show off your photos in the best way.

HOW LONG DOES THE INITIAL DESIGN TAKE?

Once I’ve received your favourites list or I’ve got the go-ahead that you like me to choose your photos, I like to allow 3 weeks for the design process. More often than not it is quicker than this but during peak wedding session (summer months) I like to allow a bit more time.

HOW MANY DESIGN REVISIONS DO WE GET?

On average 2 revisions is usually all it takes to make your wedding album just how you’d like it.

ARE THERE SAMPLES WE CAN SEE FIRST?

Yes, it is a great idea to see my sample albums as it helps you decide if an album is for you. I always have sample albums at my in-person consultations. It is a little tricky for me to best show my albums on a Skype/Facetime consultation so if you book and decide you’d like an album/are unsure whether you’d like one, I can always bring one to your engagement session, just let me know beforehand and I can organise that for you.

HOW MUCH DO THE WEDDING ALBUMS COST?

For up to date album pricing please contact me.

WHEN DO WE PAY?

If your wedding album is part of your collection the payment is due 1 month before the wedding. If booked after the wedding the payment has to be made before the album designing begins.

WHAT SIZE ALBUMS DO YOU OFFER?

I offer three wedding album sizes and they are:
12×12″
10×10″
8×8″*

*8×8″ is a parent album and can only be purchased alongside the main album.

HOW MANY PAGES?

How many would you like? As standard, all my albums come with 40 pages (20 spreads). If you need more than this extra pages can be added at an additional cost per extra 2 pages (1 spread). My albums can hold up to a maximum of 100 pages (that’s a lot of pages!).

WHAT COVER OPTIONS ARE THERE?

I offer leather, leatherette, and linen album covers, each come in various colours.

There are also a couple of options with how you can have your names on the cover too. You can either have it UV printed or embossed, I personally love the embossed look. Last year my album makers added new colours that you can have on the embossing, so you have the choice of no colour, black, gold, silver and rose gold. With the UV printed names on the cover it is a % of grey so this is dependant on what colour album you have.

DO YOU OFFER DUPLICATE ALBUMS?

I’m so glad you asked, yes, I do offer duplicates and these are ideal for parents and grandparents, my duplicate albums are even called parent albums. Currently, parent albums come in 8×8″ and they are a duplicate of the main album and can only be purchased alongside the main album.

DO YOU MAKE WEDDING ALBUMS FOR PEOPLE WHO'S WEDDINGS YOU DIDN'T PHOTOGRAPH?

No, this is an exclusive service for my wedding clients.

DO YOU HAVE A CHRISTMAS CUT-OFF?

Yes, every year there is a cut-off date for Christmas, this is usually in the first week of November.

You’ll be amazed how long it takes you to choose your photos for your wedding albums and time can really get away with you.

If you’d like your wedding album guaranteed in time for Christmas to share with family and friends, designs must be finalised by 1st November. Towards Christmas, my album makers production is much higher so naturally takes longer so I like to allow extra time just in case we need it.

DO YOU DELIVER THE ALBUMS?

If you live local to me (within a 30 minutes drive of Braintree) I like to personally deliver your wedding album myself (or if you prefer to collect that’s fine too). If you live further afield I package them up and use a courier service. All of the albums that get posted out are insured for extra protection and often arrive within 1-2 working days.

HOW DO I ADD AN ALBUM TO MY COLLECTION?

Drop me an email letting me know and I can arrange that for you.

I hope you’ve found this q&a blog post helpful. If there are any questions that you’d like me to answer that have not been mentioned, please drop me an email, I am always happy to help.
