Spring wedding at The Granary Estates

Jan 11, 2023 | Featured, Weddings

Last May Chris and Kirsty said ‘I do’ at the beautiful Granary Estates in Newmarket. Having known Chris since primary school and previously being neighbours it was a joy to be a part of their day. It was also lovely to see some familiar faces (including my brother and sister-in-law!).

Chris got in touch shortly after their engagement in the Lake District. I believe the story goes… Chris was setting up the camera to take a photo (so Kirsty thought) but in fact, Chris was about to film the moment he dropped down on one knee to ask for Kirsty’s hand in marriage.

When they began their wedding planning they asked me for wedding venue recommendations. That is when I suggested taking a look at the Granary Estates wedding venue. On their arrival at the venue, they knew it was the perfect location for them both. It is quite rare to be right at the beginning of the wedding planning journey, as photographers are often booked after the venue and date are sorted. This makes their wedding extra special as I can say I was there from the start guiding them along the way.

A warm spring Newmarket wedding

The date was Saturday 14th May 2022, and preparations were well underway. Kirsty and the girls were getting ready in the quaint cottages just opposite the venue, occasionally they peeped out of the windows to see if the guys had arrived on site. Once the guys arrived Tom my second shooter joined them to capture the final groom preparations as well as the candid build-up to the ceremony whilst I stayed with the girls.

The ceremony took place in The Flint Barn at the Granary Estates, a beautiful room with lots of character and a modern feel. The aisle chairs and the signing table were decorated by Julia from What The Fleur and personalised signs were made by Kirsty’s sister. Anticipation started to rise just before the ceremony and there were some teary eyes as Chris saw Kirsty walk down the aisle. The ceremony concluded with confetti as Chris and Kirsty led the guests to the drinks reception in the courtyard.

During the drinks reception, I took the opportunity to capture the finished set up of the wedding breakfast room whilst Tom photographed candids of guests. I adored the personalised wedding favours cookies that Kirsty made for the guests. Kirsty even kindly gave me one too! After a bit more mingling it was time to photograph their groups and couple portraits before the wedding breakfast that Crown Catering Cambridge supplied, yum!

Chris and Kirsty were blessed with a stunning golden hour. We took this opportunity to follow the sun and capture photos by the swing and the field near the cottages. These were just some of my favourite photos taken on their wedding day, that light was so dreamy and golden!

Their evening was filled with lots of lovely activities including; a sparkler line, making s’mores by the fire and dancing featuring a confetti canon! Chris and Kirsty’s wedding was a joy to capture, see some of my favourite photos from their day below.

Tying the knot at the Granary Estates? I’d love to hear from you!

Wedding photos at the Granary Estates

Kind words from Kirsty and Chris

Gemma is a phenomenal photographer. We booked her for our wedding in May and receiving the shots she got just made us relive the whole day. The photos are so beautiful. Above all of this, Gemma is such a lovely person, she is very calm and supportive which is exactly what you need on your wedding. She organised the large group photos, sparkler shots and smoke canon shoots so well, they ran so smoothly and she took care of it all. You are so talented Gemma and we could not recommend you enough! Thank you for everything!
